A Better Way Online Annual Gathering - Finding A Better Way in Turbulent Times
We invite you to join us at our online Annual Gathering.
Our gathering recognises the challenging climate in which we’re striving to uphold Better Way principles and behaviours. Over the past six months, network conversations and wider societal shifts have shaped three key focus areas for the conference
In the lead up to the gathering, we are holding several related events in each of these areas that will determine the key topics for discussion within these broad themes:
1. Can We Change the Operating Model? Narrowing the distance between high level government policy and the realities on the ground.
Several Better Way members are now influencing senior government discussions. This is our chance to shape change through initiatives like:
The Social Insights Panel, connecting civil society voices to government reform.
The Civil Society Covenant Council, working with the Cabinet Office on Test, Learn and Grow.
The National Procurement Policy Advisory Group, shifting government spending towards VCSEs.
2. Can We Advance Action on Race Equity?
In the wake of the 2024 race riots and ongoing culture wars, we’ll explore how Better Way principles can help leaders champion race equity amid growing division and far-right rhetoric.
Our discussion will cover:
An Alternative Narrative – How we respond to far-right movements and promote unity.
Women of Colour – Insights from our community exploring resilience and resistance in challenging times.
Race Equity Co-learning Lab – Shaping our new co-lab and future initiatives for systemic change.
3. In Service of Neighbourhood Health - Can we make the shift to neighbourhood health and wellbeing meaningful?
With new national investments in “Pride in Places” and “Neighbourhood Health Services,” our place-based group invites reflection on what genuine community health means.
Our new blog, In Service of Neighbourhood Health — A Better Way, argues that real impact comes not from new buildings or teams, but from humility, trust, and sharing power with communities as equal partners.
Key questions for each topic
Arey they worth pursuing?
If so, how do we best focus our future efforts as a network?
How do each of the topics interrelate to one another?

Better Way bi-annual gathering: Building a ‘Bigger We’ though Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
Despite considerable interest and lots of effort and hard work in the area of Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, progress has been slow - put quite simply, we need to do more. We invite you to join us at our Bi-Annual Gathering to lean in and have an honest conversation about how we can use Better Way principles to make deeper, more radical change.
We will be joined by experts in this field Alison Navarro and Ngozi Lyn Cole who will lead us in the discussion and challenge us to think more actively about how we can build on our existing work and do more.
We will spotlight some case studies from Better Way members, learning from both successes and examples which haven't gone to plan and we will share the results of a recent member survey and findings of a member working group.
And as always there will be plenty of opportunity for participants to enter into discussion and debate, to share ideas and insights, to make valuable connections, and come away recharged and refreshed.
